Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the fantasy RPG from Capcom under director Hideaki Itsuno. Since March 21, 2024, you've been roaming an open world full of monsters as the Arisen alongside your pawns. I took a look at how well the adventure holds up today.

Rating and verdict
Dragon’s Dogma 2 offers some of the best combat in the RPG genre. Climbing a cyclops while my pawns cast spells is brilliantly staged. The world invites exploration and rewards curiosity with caves, treasure and surprising encounters.
At launch, city performance, microtransactions and a single save slot caused a lot of frustration. Some of that has been patched, but the frame rate in cities remains an issue. Recurring enemy types and a weak story also cost points.

Dragon’s Dogma 2: World and exploration
The kingdoms of Vermund and Battahl form a large open world. Fast travel is deliberately limited, so you often travel on foot or by oxcart. That makes journeys long, but it leads to plenty of spontaneous encounters with goblins, griffins and dragons.
Vocations and pawns
You choose a vocation such as Fighter, Archer, Mage or Thief, and later unlock more classes. You also create your own main pawn and hire two more from other players. Pawns learn from experience and give you tips on quests.
Criticism at launch
At launch, many Steam players criticized microtransactions in a full-price game and the inability to start a new save. Capcom later made improvements. On Steam, 63 percent of more than 78,000 reviews are positive overall, with recent ones at 79 percent.
Tech and system requirements
The RE Engine delivers detailed landscapes, but the frame rate drops sharply in cities. On PC, you need at least 16 GB of RAM and a GTX 1660; details are in the table below this article. More info is available on the official Dragon’s Dogma 2 website.
