Some games you don’t just play through; they stay with you for years. The Wolf Among Us was exactly that kind of game for me. I still remember waiting weeks for the next part after every episode back then and wondering whether I’d played Bigby too hard or too soft. Honestly, I was happier than I’d like to admit that Telltale is now reopening this very case.

Before I get into the details: I haven’t played The Wolf Among Us Remastered myself yet. So this article isn’t a review but an overview of what Telltale has officially revealed so far, and why I’m already eagerly awaiting October 29, 2026.

Outlook

I’m approaching this remaster with great anticipation but also realistic expectations. The story stays the same, and if you know the original, you won’t get a new plot. But if you’ve never played The Wolf Among Us or simply want to return to Fabletown, you’ll probably get the most beautiful version of this classic here. For me, it’s also the perfect warm-up for The Wolf Among Us 2, which is set to release in 2027.

Whether Telltale keeps its promises on tech and bonus material I can only say after release. Unfortunately, Switch players will have to be patient. I’ll only give a score once I’ve slipped back into Bigby’s coat myself. You’ll find out more here then.

What we’re looking forward to

✅ All five episodes with reworked lighting, animations and environments

✅ New Noir Mode for a distinctive black-and-white look

✅ Bonus material with cut scenes, interviews and concept art

What’s still open

❌ No new story content for those who know the original

❌ Switch version delayed, no new date yet

❌ Physical editions not until Q1 2027

Welcome back to Fabletown

For everyone who missed the original: The Wolf Among Us is based on Bill Willingham’s Fables comics. Fairy tale characters live in disguise in 1980s New York, in a neighborhood called Fabletown. You play Bigby Wolf, the once Big Bad Wolf, who is now supposed to keep order as sheriff. Many Fables don’t trust him, and honestly, you can hardly blame them.

What grabbed me right away back then was this mix of fairy tale and gritty big-city crime story. Mr. Toad, Ichabod Crane or Snow White don’t come across as characters from a children’s book here, but as people with worries, debts and secrets.

Five episodes, one case

The remaster contains all five episodes of the original season. According to Telltale, the story itself remains unchanged: a murder shakes Fabletown, and Bigby has to find out who’s behind it. Your decisions determine how the characters react to you and what reputation Bigby ends up with.

For me, that’s exactly the core of the game. Not the big twists, but the small moments in an interrogation when you have to decide whether to intimidate someone or give them a chance. I’m curious whether I’ll take different paths this time than I did over ten years ago.

The new Noir Mode

The most striking new feature is Noir Mode. It lets you experience the entire game in a high-contrast black-and-white look reminiscent of classic detective films. It almost fits this story too well.

I admit I was skeptical at first, because the bold neon colors have always been part of the game’s identity for me. The trailer convinced me, though. I’ll probably play my first run the classic way and save Noir Mode for a second go.

What The Wolf Among Us Remastered improves

In addition to Noir Mode, Telltale promises reworked lighting, improved animations and more detailed environments. The sound has also been remastered. On top of that comes bonus material such as developer commentary, concept art, interviews and playable, originally cut scenes.

I’m especially looking forward to the cut scenes. As a fan, you always want to know what could have been. How extensive these extras actually are can’t be said before release, though.

Graphics, tech and platforms

The Wolf Among Us Remastered releases digitally on October 29, 2026 for PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5 and Xbox One. On Xbox Series X|S, the game runs via backward compatibility. Physical versions are announced for Q1 2027.

There is one drawback, though: the Nintendo Switch version has been delayed. Telltale says it needs more time, and there’s no new date yet. You’ll find all the details in our news on the Switch delay, and the official platform details are on Telltale’s website. The PC system requirements are pleasantly moderate:
