Prospera is a city builder set in the Victorian era, and one where you don't look down on your city from above but stand right in the middle of it. Prospera is being developed by Munich-based indie studio Active Fungus Studios, with Toplitz Productions publishing. According to Steam, Prospera enters Early Access in the second quarter of 2027. Here you'll find all the official info on the release.

What is Prospera?

In Prospera, you start out as a humble lumberjack and work your way up to industrial tycoon. Instead of zoning plots from a bird's-eye view, you build structures yourself with tools and blueprints, from either a first-person or over-the-shoulder perspective. You walk the streets of your city, spot problems on the ground and take care of your residents' needs.

Prospera was unveiled at gamescom 2026. The publisher compares the game to titles like Anno 1800, Satisfactory, Medieval Dynasty and Bellwright. I find this mix exciting, because first-person builders have so far been set almost exclusively in the Middle Ages.

Gameplay features

An economy with real flow of goods

At the heart of Prospera is an economic simulation with a real flow of goods. You plan production chains, optimize storage and logistics, and grow your workshops into large industrial complexes. Factories can be merged, and you research new technologies step by step.

Industrialization and the railway

Prospera takes you from early industry to the rise of the railway, turning a small village into a steam-powered metropolis. According to the Steam page, outposts in the open world are part of it as well.

Prosperity system and residents

The prosperity system turns aesthetics into a resource: a well-planned, beautifully designed city gets rewarded. Residents are simulated and have their own needs. On top of that, there are survival and crafting elements, such as hunting in the forests around your settlement.

Tech and platforms

Prospera launches first on PC (Windows). According to Steam, controllers are fully supported. The hardware requirements are fairly steep for a city builder: even the minimum specs call for 16 GB of RAM and an Intel Core i7-8700. You'll find the full system requirements in the table below this article.

Text is available in German, English, French, Spanish, Polish, Russian, Japanese, Korean and Simplified Chinese. Full voice acting is planned in German and English.

Release and price

Steam lists the Early Access launch for the second quarter of 2027. According to the publisher, Prospera will also come to the Epic Games Store alongside Steam. There's no price yet. You can wishlist the game on its official Steam page.

Verdict and outlook

For me, Prospera is one of the most interesting builders announced for 2027. Victorian industry from a first-person view is pretty much unheard of, and Active Fungus Studios already proved with the Inspector Schmidt series that it can build convincing historical worlds. What remains to be seen is how well economic depth and up-close building go together. You'll find more upcoming titles in our games overview.
