Remothered: Red Nun's Legacy review: a disturbing finale to the horror trilogy

Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy is a survival horror game by the Italian studio Stormind Games from Catania, with publisher Soft Source handling the release in Asia. It was released on 27 October 2026 for PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with the Nintendo Switch 2 version following on 3 December 2026. As the third and final part, it concludes the Remothered trilogy after Tormented Fathers (2018) and Broken Porcelain (2020).

Story and setting

You play Susan Harper, whose daughter has been kidnapped. The trail leads her to Villa Ashmann on the slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily. There she encounters the Red Nun and a cult surrounding the legend of the Cristo Morente. The game draws on Italian giallo cinema and tells its story in a dark, bloody way with plenty of twists.

Many players on Steam praise the story and the ending, which answers the open questions of the series. You don’t need to know the predecessors, but many moments hit harder if you do.

Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy review: gameplay

As in the predecessors, you are hunted by stalkers. You hide in wardrobes, distract enemies with objects, flee or fight back with weapons that usually break quickly. New are supernatural abilities such as hypnosis, retrocognition, mirror powers and controlling moths, which you use to trick enemies and uncover secrets.

On top of that there are puzzles and a quest display that makes it easier to find your way. However, the puzzles are very easy and hardly challenge genre veterans. The game is single-player only and fully supports controllers. That is why depth only gets 62 points: you are done after about five to eight hours, and the easy puzzles hardly challenge you.

Graphics and sound

Thanks to Unreal Engine 5, Red Nun’s Legacy looks much better than its predecessors. Light, shadows and the detailed villa create a dense atmosphere, and animations feel smoother too. The sound is where the game shines: Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill) and Aram Shahbazians provide the music, Cissy Jones voices Susan and Maggie Robertson the Red Nun. Voice-over is English only, with text available in German among other languages. That is why we give the sound 84 points: Yamaoka’s music and the strong voices of Cissy Jones and Maggie Robertson carry the atmosphere in almost every scene.

Technology and system requirements

The hardware requirements are high; even the minimum requires 16 GB of RAM and an RTX 2070 Super. Some players report stutters, especially with ray tracing. According to Steam, the game is verified for the Steam Deck. That is why technology only gets 60 points: the game doesn’t run badly, but the stutters with ray tracing and the high requirements stand out negatively. Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy regularly costs 29.99 euros on Steam. At Instant Gaming you can currently get the Steam key for 21.99 euros. The Deluxe Edition also includes a digital artbook and the soundtrack.
