Xbox Cloud Gaming without Game Pass: From November you can stream your games with hour packs

Xbox Cloud Gaming without Game Pass is becoming reality: from November, you can stream your own games without a subscription. To do so, you buy hour packs in the Xbox Store. Xbox Insiders can already test the model, and the first prices are set.

What’s changing in cloud gaming

Until now, Xbox Cloud Gaming was tied to Game Pass. That’s changing now: according to Xbox Wire , from November you can buy so-called Cloud Playtime hours in the Xbox Store and use them to stream eligible games you own. You no longer need a Game Pass subscription for that. Microsoft is targeting anyone who only plays in the cloud occasionally or simply doesn’t want a recurring subscription.

Honestly, I think this is an exciting step. Owners of an older Xbox One in particular benefit: according to Xbox, Xbox One owners can use the cloud to play eligible games that were actually built for Xbox Series X|S without having to buy new hardware right away.

When it starts and what it costs

Since October 21, 2026, Xbox Insiders without an active Game Pass subscription have been able to test Cloud Playtime early, as Microsoft confirms on Xbox Wire . The broader launch follows in November. These introductory prices in US dollars apply to Insiders:

  • 10 hours for $3.99
  • 25 hours for $7.99
  • 50 hours for $11.99

The packs offer ad-free cloud gaming, shorter wait times and high-quality streaming. Handy: the hours you buy don’t expire but remain available until you’ve used them up. Microsoft hasn’t announced euro prices yet.

Which games and what requirements

There’s no fixed game list yet. According to Xbox, you can only stream cloud-enabled games you’ve bought; for selected titles, free-to-play access is enough. You also need a supported device. Microsoft plans to add more cloud-supported games over the course of the year and to reveal more about eligible games, prices and availability in November.

Xbox is also testing a free, ad-supported version with Insiders. That also lets you try cloud gaming without Game Pass, but without the benefits of the paid packs.

Is Germany included?

Here I have to put you off for now: Microsoft hasn’t officially said in which countries Cloud Playtime will launch. According to Xbox, availability, purchase options, eligible games and features may vary by market, device and account. Xbox plans to share market availability details in November. As soon as it’s clear whether Germany is included at launch, we’ll let you know.

Something is changing for Game Pass subscribers too

The new option doesn’t come alone. Also from November, Microsoft is limiting cloud gaming in Game Pass to a fixed number of hours per month:

  • Game Pass Ultimate: 15 hours
  • Game Pass Premium: 10 hours
  • Game Pass Essential: 5 hours

If you need more, you can buy additional hours in the Xbox Store. According to Microsoft, the change affects around 4 percent of Game Pass subscribers. Xbox cites the rising costs of running cloud gaming as the reason. You’ll find more news about Microsoft and Xbox Game Studios on PlayInsider, such as our review of Forza Horizon 5.
