Honestly, I’d stopped expecting it: Squadron 42 has a Steam page and a concrete release window. Cloud Imperium Games lists the second quarter of 2027 there, and the new trailer „The Oath“ shows a star-studded cast you’d otherwise only know from Hollywood.
Squadron 42: Release in Q2 2027 for PC
On the official Steam page , the release is listed as Q2 2027, i.e. the period from April to June. So far only PC is confirmed. Cloud Imperium hasn’t revealed an exact date or price yet, but you can already add Squadron 42 to your wishlist.
According to Polygon , after more than ten years of development the game is more tangible than ever. Previously, Chris Roberts had moved the release out of 2026, partly to avoid colliding with GTA 6.

Star-studded cast in the new trailer
The trailer goes all in on its stars: among others, you can see Gary Oldman, Mark Hamill, Gillian Anderson, Mark Strong, Liam Cunningham, Andy Serkis, Henry Cavill, Ben Mendelsohn and John Rhys-Davies. The actors lend their characters not only their voices but also their looks.
You play a young recruit of the UEE Navy in the year 2945. Stationed on a capital ship, you live and fight with your crew and make decisions that determine your rank and your legacy.

Gameplay, languages and system requirements
Gameplay-wise, Squadron 42 mixes cockpit space battles, stealth sections and first-person combat on foot. On Steam, the game is listed as a purely single-player experience, with full controller support and HDR.

The minimum requirements are steep: 64-bit Windows 11, 16 GB RAM, a graphics card with 8 GB VRAM and 150 GB of storage. Full voice-over is only available in English, but German text and subtitles are included.

My take
Squadron 42 has been delayed so often that I remain skeptical. But the Steam page, the trailer and the concrete quarter are the clearest sign yet that the game is really coming. You’ll find all the info in our Squadron 42 overview.
