Honestly, I didn’t think I’d live to see this: Blizzard is sending us back to the Azeroth where it all began for so many of us, and this time it doesn’t want to freeze it but let it keep growing. World of Warcraft: Forever, or WoW Forever for short, aims to bring back exactly the feeling many know from the early days, with the world as the main character and a community that needs each other. We’ve gathered everything Blizzard has officially revealed so far.

Outlook
I’m honestly looking forward to WoW Forever. The idea of not just preserving old Azeroth but continuing its story with new tales, dungeons and raids sounds like exactly what many have wanted for years. That you’re in with a normal WoW subscription and can even check it out for free in the stress test beforehand makes getting started pleasantly easy.
At the same time, questions remain: how well does the concept hold up over months, how fair does the race behind the paywall feel, and will the servers withstand the rush at launch? We’ll only give a score once we’ve played it extensively ourselves.
What we liked
✅ Classic Azeroth keeps growing with new content
✅ Included in the normal WoW subscription
✅ Clear roadmap with raids and hardcore mode
What bothered us
❌ New race only with a paid pack
❌ Long-term motivation not yet foreseeable
❌ Server stability at launch still unclear
What is WoW Forever?
WoW Forever is neither a remaster nor a pure Classic server. Blizzard calls it a new, permanent home alongside modern World of Warcraft and WoW Classic. You return to a reimagined original Azeroth where the world itself plays the lead role, the community is at the center and the journey counts as much as the destination. At BlizzCon, the term many have been waiting years for was also mentioned: Classic Plus. You can read more about the studio in our profile of Blizzard Entertainment.
Chronologically, the story picks up after the events of Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom, i.e. after the fall of Lordaeron but before Molten Core. You play on the original continents up to level 60, and that’s where you stay. Instead of ever-new level increases, according to the official announcement the game is meant to grow with new stories, experiences and updates.

New race, new content and a roadmap
New is the playable Skyborne race with its own starting zone, Zephras Isle. However, it’s only available with one of the paid upgrade packs, which has caused some discussion in the community. According to Blizzard’s official roadmap, the first raids are set to follow in winter, along with a hardcore mode, and new raids, dungeons, quests and PvP content are planned for spring and summer 2027.
We can’t say yet how well it all comes together in the end. We haven’t played WoW Forever extensively ourselves yet, so there’s no rating here yet.
WoW Forever: Release, price and stress test
WoW Forever launches worldwide on November 4, 2026 at 3 p.m. Pacific Time, which in Germany is the night of November 5. There’s no separate purchase price: according to Blizzard , access is included in the normal WoW subscription or with game time. Optionally, there’s the Skyborne Heroic Pack, the Skyborne Epic Pack and the limited-time Warcraft Forever Collection, which unlock, among other things, the new race and early name reservation from October 27 to November 3.
If you want to take a look beforehand: an open stress test runs on October 21, 2026 from 7 p.m. CEST, for which you need neither a subscription nor beta access. You play via the Battle.net app on PC and Mac.

Which edition is worth it?
I took a closer look at the three upgrade packs because the differences are pretty confusing at first glance. According to Blizzard, the Skyborne Heroic Pack includes the new race along with the Zephras Isle starting zone, early name reservation, the Cerulean Prideclaw ground mount, a few cosmetic items, housing decor and an Invite-A-Friend code. There’s a small catch with the mount: you still have to buy the riding skill in-game first.
The Skyborne Epic Pack adds quite a bit on top. This includes beta access, which has been running since September 17, 30 days of game time from November 4, more cosmetic items, pets, tabards and a total of three Invite-A-Friend codes. The limited-time Warcraft Forever Collection contains everything from the Epic Pack plus Warcraft III: Reforged, the Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom campaign and two figures as housing decor for modern World of Warcraft.
My honest assessment: if you just want to experience old Azeroth anew, you don’t need any of the packs; the normal subscription is enough. It mainly gets interesting for anyone who absolutely wants to start with the new race. If you’re planning a longer subscription anyway, you should also check Blizzard’s current offer: with a 6- or 12-month subscription, you get, among other things, the „Tabard of Eternal Exploration“ and „Eternal Explorer’s Backpack“ transmogs and the Azurky pet for Forever. The bonuses are supposed to arrive by October 31, 2026.
Graphics and tech
Visually, WoW Forever takes a middle path: the graphics have been modernized but are meant to keep the style of the original era. WoW Forever is playable on Windows PC and Mac via the Battle.net app; Blizzard hasn’t announced a console or mobile version. Important for older PCs: according to the Battle.net shop, an SSD with 128 GB of free space is required.
